What is Seinen Manga?

Seinen manga 青年漫画

In Japanese, the word Seinen means "young man" or "young men".  Seinen manga is generally targeted at 20 to 30 year old males audience, though some seinen manga are aimed at middle aged businessmen.

Subject matter, can range from the avant-garde to the pornographic.  Seinen manga places a greater emphasis on realism, storyline and character development rather than action. Not to be confused with "Adult Manga"

Shōnen manga: intended for boys
Shōjo manga: intended for girls
Josei manga: intended for adult women

Though open to dispute, Gantz, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Hellsing are good examples of Seinen manga.
